Flashcards with the vocabulary word and an example allow students to solely focus on use of the word. If students have already acquired the vocabulary, either with another set of flashcards or through self-study, the next step is to use the word in a natural conversation. This set of flashcards comes with an example for students to understand how to correctly use the vocabulary. Activity #1: Students partner up with one another and receive a deck of cards. Student A reads the sentence(s) on the card, but says "blank" in lieu of the vocabulary word. For example, student A says, "There is a blank near my house. Unfortunately, the bus is usually late." His/Her partner must guess the appropriate word. This activity not only promotes usage of the vocabulary, but students also improve their listening comprehension. Students switch roles and repeat. Activity #2: Students get into pairs and receive a deck of flashcards. Student A reads the example sentence(s) to his/her partner, who only listens and tries to understand the full sentence(s). Student A then dictates the sentence(s), as student B writes the information. (Student A should take care with pronunciation and intonation when reading the sentence(s).) Students check answers with one another, and then switch roles to repeat the activity through the deck of cards.
